VANCOUVER’S GREEN GOAL
SUSTAINABILITY PLAN
At FIFA Fan Festival™ Vancouver, sustainability is at the heart of the celebration. Aligning with FIFA’s sustainability mandates and the City of Vancouver’s Greenest City Action Plan, we’re taking measures to reduce waste, use greener materials, and cut down on emissions. By prioritizing composting, recycling, sustainable fabrication, and eco-friendly transportation, we’re ensuring that world-class football and West Coast sustainability go hand-in-hand.

WASTE REDUCTION & RECYCLING
Aligning with the City of Vancouver’s waste reduction mandates, we have developed a thorough waste management plan at the FIFA Fan Festival™ Vancouver. Our goal is to send less to the landfill and recycle or compost more. We’re focusing on clear processes and detailed operational planning to ensure all waste is properly sorted and handled, meeting our sustainability goals.
In partnership with Binners’ Project, all materials will be carefully sorted back-of-house to keep as much waste as possible out of landfill and reduce what ultimately gets thrown away. By creating clear and informative site-wide signage, we can ensure that all attendees can interpret and participate in minimizing on-site waste.
Surplus food and beverages will be rescued through our collaboration with Food Runners and distributed immediately through their over 180 channels across the city, minimizing waste while supporting our community.

REDUCING SINGLE-USE PLASTICS
We’re drastically reducing single-use plastics across the site with the implementation of a reusable cup program and by mandating a paper-based compostable packaging program for all food vendors, staff caterers and concessions at the Festival.
Free smart water refill stations will be available throughout the Festival - because in Vancouver, the best water is on tap. Fans are encouraged to bring empty reusable bottles to refill on-site.

SUSTAINABLE FABRICATION & Legacy USE
Each and every material fabricated and used at the festival is tracked and catalogued with a purpose. From signage and scenic builds to furniture and construction material, we’re designing for reuse after the event, upcycling, and minimal waste.
Materials from the event will be thoughtfully designed and sourced with sustainability in mind, then repurposed to extend their life and impact. Select items will be upcycled into products and gear to be donated to community organizations, while other inventory will be donated or redirected to makerspaces and schools to support creative reuse, learning, and future programming, ensuring resources continue to serve a purpose beyond the Festival and leave a lasting legacy.

ECO + ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION
Our goal is to make sustainability part of the experience. We’re making it easier for fans to lower their carbon footprint by enhancing transit access, including adding bus capacity on key routes to and from the Festival.
A dedicated transportation hub brings everything together in one place, featuring a free, secure bike valet, Mobi bike share, designated Lime e‑scooter parking, and convenient lockers for personal items and prohibited belongings, helping reduce waste from abandoned gear.
For those using taxis and rideshares, clearly marked pick-up and drop-off zones streamline access while reducing congestion.

MINIMIZING EMISSIONS & WATER CONSUMPTION
We’re reducing emissions across the entire Festival footprint. The core Fan Festival site main site is generator-free, powered by cleaner energy through BC Hydro connections with limited exceptions in select peripheral areas such as parking lots and the Bike Valet.
Low-emission travel is prioritized for fans, staff and talent, supported by a fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles for production and talent transportation needs, on select days, in partnership with KIA.
Through food rescue initiatives with Food Runners, we’re also reducing emissions associated with food waste while creating meaningful community impact.
Our venue is built for sustainability. The new PNE Amphitheatre reflects Vancouver’s leadership in sustainable design with LEED Gold Standard and Salmon Safe certifications. The venue also features a 24-hour rainwater strategy and three water refill stations.

SUSTAINABILITY IMPACT REPORTing
Sustainability measured is sustainability improved. We’re tracking our impact across the festival - including reusable cup usage and waste diversion rates to upcycled materials, water refill data, bike route traffic, emissions reductions, community outcomes from food rescue and social enterprise partnerships, and beyond.
Post-event, we’ll publish a Sustainability Impact Report to share what we've learned, creating a legacy roadmap for future sustainable events in Vancouver.
